Hi, I'm Rachel

I also go by Rae (she/they) and I am the founder of Solstice Therapy. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Clinical Art Therapist and sex and relationship therapist in Thousand Oaks, California. I identify as queer and try my best to be an ally to people of color. I work from an anti-oppression and anti-racist stance and try to maintain an attitude of cultural humility. I am neurodiversity-affirming, which means I will not pathologize you, but will see your symptoms as signals that needs are not being met or pain is unresolved.

I have a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy with specialized training in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. I have been working with clients since 2015, and I am humbled by the opportunity to hold space for my clients to share their stories and release the burdens they have been carrying. I take a client-centered approach meaning that you are the expert in your experience and you get to decide what is most important that you want to focus on each session.

I use somatic therapy modalities including EMDR, Brainspotting, and Art Therapy as well as talk therapy to help my clients feel better. I also use developmental needs-meeting strategy to help people re-parent themselves and meet their own needs. I specialize in treating trauma, especially complex PTSD and have a lot of experience helping people recover from neglect, abuse or having a narcissistic or alcoholic parent or emotionally immature parents who did not meet their emotional needs.  I love helping people who had difficult childhoods heal and live full, satisfying lives. I love helping clients improve their relationships through modeling nonviolent communication.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked with children 0-5 for 5 years. I am comfortable providing trauma therapy to children of all ages. I specialize in child trauma therapy and can use art therapy, play or EMDR/ Brainspotting with kids.

I provide sex and relationship therapy to individuals and couples. I help people who have been through sexual abuse or assault to recover and find a sense of safety and be able to experience pleasure in their body again.  I am kink/BDSM affirming and work with people with alternative lifestyles. I love to help people connect with themselves and their partners in satisfying and revitalizing ways. I also love helping people recover from purity culture and religious trauma. I believe that pleasure heals.

I am now offering ketamine-assisted therapy in office or on Telehealth. I have deep respect for Indigenous traditions where people have been using psychedelics for thousands of years to gain insight, wisdom, and healing as well as a heightened awareness of their interconnectedness with nature and the universe. I have seen firsthand (personally and my clients) the power of psychedelics like ketamine to help people get unstuck and gain a new perspective that can be freeing and restorative. Ketamine- assisted therapy can be very helpful for resolving PTSD, complicated grief, and treatment resistant depression. Read more about ketamine-assisted therapy here

I am warm, attuned, and present which makes my clients feel comfortable with me. I see the best in my clients and accept them for who they are. I am willing to go as deep as you want to, and will always respect if you are not ready to work on a certain topic yet.  I love to laugh with clients and don't take myself too seriously.

I love working with other therapists!

When not providing therapy, you will find me with my family and friends, growing vegetables and native plants, writing poetry, enjoying concerts, hosting gatherings, being in nature, doing yoga and making art. I am a mother of two elementary-aged kids.

My fees are $250/45 min session and $390/90 min session.

Ketamine sessions are 2 full hours (120 min)/ $390 per session.  Most people opt to do them every 2-4 weeks during their course of ketamine assisted therapy treatment.

If you would like to work with me but my fees are not affordable for you, consider working with a member of our team like Sara, Maggie or my Associate, Danny. They are all very skilled and have lower fees. I meet with them all weekly and provide guidance and feedback about their cases. I have a limited number of sliding scale spots which are currently full.

If you want help deciding who would be the best fit for you, feel free to reach out to me and I can help you decide!

Contact me for a 20 min phone call to see if we are a good fit to work together.
