Hi, I'm Maggie
Maggie Knobbe is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist 141419 in the state of California. Maggie is a Registered Art Therapist ATR in Thousand Oaks serving Ventura County Residents.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Art Therapist in Thousand Oaks, my goal is to help people navigate uncertainty. I love celebrating the uniqueness of each person, and hope to create a welcoming space for people to express themselves freely and grow. Art has always been a passion of mine, and I believe that everyone has the power to express themselves through art.
Since earning a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy with
specialized training in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University, I have worked with clients in TK, adult day care, and all ages in between. These experiences influenced my culturally humble and humanistic perspective, in which I value my clients as the experts in their own life. My therapeutic approach is an eclectic blend of clinical art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic/play therapy, and mindfulness based practices. I also integrate my training in EMDR to incorporate a somatic approach.
I specialize in therapy with children in elementary school to help them reach their goals to feel calmer, more confident, and less distressed. Through individual therapy and groups, I work well helping clients with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, boundaries in friendships, interpersonal communication, social skills, managing depression and anxiety, mindfulness, and increasing focus.
In addition to creating art, I love hiking, traveling, being a cat mom, and practicing yoga and barre to help keep me grounded. I am always curious to learn more about the world around me.
My sessions are tailored to each client’s specific needs. I love finding what works on an individual level for each person to achieve their goals, and believe in noticing the steps of progress (great and small) throughout the journey.
My fees are $195/45 minute session or $350/90 min session.

Modalities
EMDR
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based treatment that helps people heal from the effects of traumatic experiences. It is based on the adaptive information processing model which suggests that the cause for distress is the way memories are stored in the brain and body. EMDR helps memories move from being stored in painful (maladaptive) ways to being stored in healthy (adaptive) ways. Maladaptively stored memories cause physical symptoms, unhelpful behaviors, and overwhelming emotional distress, Adaptively stored memories are the basis for healthy functioning and resilience.
Clinical Art Therapy
Clinical Art Therapy is an approach that weds traditional psychotherapy methods with art-making that helps you communicate and process in an embodied and nonverbal way. Art-making can aid in expression of feelings when words aren't enough and is a great approach for you if you consider yourself quiet or creative. Even with limited words spoken, symptoms can be reduced and overall wellness improved through the use of clinical art therapy. You will be provided with a variety of high-quality materials as an avenue for self-exploration and growth. Art approaches you can use in session include painting, drawing, sculpting with clay, throwing on the pottery wheel, collage, poetry, and creating comic books. We shape sessions to uniquely fit your needs, strengths, & interests. Rachel and Maggie completed their education in Clinical Art Therapy at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles and both are Registered Art Therapists. Sara and Danny also use art with her clients and learned under Rachel's supervision..
